Muscat International Airport won Top Spot for Fastest Growing Airport in the Middle East based on Passengers’ Satisfaction

Muscat International Airport has won top spot for Fastest Growing Airport in the Middle East based on passengers’ satisfaction, being awarded the 2018 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award for best growing airport in the Middle, as announced by the Airports Council International (ACI) World. The Airport Service Quality program is the world’s leading airport passenger service and benchmarking program measuring passengers’ satisfaction across various key performance indicators. The award caps a breakthrough debut that has seen Muscat International Airport achieve numerous milestones since the commercial operations have been launched from the new passenger terminal buildings less than a year ago.

The Airport has gained this recognition, as it continues to earn praise for its relentless focus on providing higher levels of services and performance. The award is based on input from passengers about the services and facilities provided by the airport. This in-depth feedback is crucial to how the Airport's management continues to make lasting improvements in the airport to strengthen its capacity to provide exceptional experience and service for all the airport users.

Close to 1.5 million passengers traveled through Muscat International Airport last January. The Airport has already launched direct flights to new destinations in the first quarter of this year, the latest being between Alexandria and Muscat offered by salamair, Oman’s No.1 low-cost airline. This is a positive step in the right direction as the Airport begins efforts to maximize its competitive advantage to attract more international airline routes between Oman and the rest of the world, with even more achievements to unlock.

The ACI’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) is the global benchmarking programme measuring passengers' satisfaction whilst they are traveling through an airport to better understand passengers’ views and what they want from an airport’s products and services. This encourages airports to improve their services and facilities and strive to increase passenger satisfaction.

Welcoming the delighted news that Muscat International Airport has won the ASQ Award, CEO of Oman Airports, Sheikh Ayman Bin Ahmed Sultan Al Hosani noted: “This award is another tribute to the achievements of Muscat International Airport which is moving with firm steps towards creating a global presence for Oman Airports in the international community. It is regarded as part of the joint efforts with our strategic partners to achieve the national strategic aspirations and objectives in the travel and tourism sectors.”

Sheikh Ayman Al Hosani thanked the Airport’s dedicated staff and strategic partners, who are always willing to go an extra mile to provide a better working environment and an exceptional airport experience to the passengers who are the center and focus of all the efforts deployed by Oman Airports.

It is noteworthy that Muscat International Airport was recently voted Best New Middle East Tourism Development Project just four weeks after its launching and won the prestigious title of the World's Leading New Airport in 2018 at the World Travel Awards. Muscat International Airport was also the recipient of the prestigious Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment 2018 in the Best Private Sector eService category for the its Data eServices project.

ASQ program is a global benchmark measuring passengers’ satisfaction whilst they are traveling through an airport. Each year, winners are determined based on the results of ACI ASQ passenger satisfaction surveys, which are collected from more than 300 airports across 50 countries. ASQ program has been designed to provide airports with accurate and comprehensive analysis of their products and services’ performance, gaining greater confidence across more than 300 airports worldwide and more than 60% of the top 100 international airports. The program is part of the International Airport Council's initiative to provide independent market research, analysis and information solutions exclusively for the airport industry.
