Muscat – Oman Airports: 30, March 2020

Oman Airports has started immediate implementation of travel restrictions, directives and recommendations issued by Oman’s Supreme Committee for Dealing with COVID-19 and the directives issued by the Public Authority for Civil Aviation.

Recently, Oman’s Supreme Committee for Dealing with COVID-19 issued a series of travel-related decisions and precautionary measures, the latest of which was the suspension of operations at all airports under Oman Airports as of Sunday, March 29, 2020, excluding Musandam Governorate flights and cargo flights.

In support of the efforts of the government to stem the further spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Oman Airports immediately announced a number of decisions and precautionary measures across all the Sultanate’s airports. The decisions included testing check-in procedures at Crew Terminal instead of Muscat International Airport for all passengers traveling on Oman Air flights excluded from the suspension from Khasab Province, Musandam Governorate. These measures come as part of Oman Airports' efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) through Oman's airports and ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel.

In a statement published on its website and official social media platforms, Oman Airports recommended that all passengers traveling to Khasab province in Musandam Governorate on pre-scheduled Oman Air flights or emerging flights be aware of changes in travel procedures before heading to the airport. At this point, the company is testing possibilities of registering, handling and checking in two of these flights at the Crew Terminal adjacent to the cargo building at Muscat International Airport in order to allow for intensive sterilization and disinfection work across all airport terminals in the meantime. These disinfection measures aim at maintaining a hygienic environment across all airport premises and levels, all while ensuring continuous operational readiness when conditions warrant.

Once confirmed, the success of the two operational trials will be announced via Oman Airports official social media accounts.
The declaration was published along with a collection of photos and electronic map directions to the Crew Terminal, now being the temporary terminal for registering and handling these flights. Upon arriving to Muscat International Airport, passengers can follow the road signage “Khasab Flights” to the Cargo Terminal and proceed to the building.

It is worth noting that among decisions to cease all domestic and international flights to and from Oman's airports, these measures will only apply to flights excluded by the decisions of Oman’s Supreme Committee for Dealing with COVID-19, which include flights to Khasab province in Musandam Governorate. The airport will continue to receive unscheduled flights allocated by the concerned authorities for evacuating Omani citizens, in addition to scheduled cargo flights.

Oman Airports has concluded its statement by requesting passengers on these flights to contact Oman Air and check for any updates on their flights and pre-travel procedures.

The decision to suspend flights by Oman’s Supreme Committee for Dealing with COVID-19 followed a series of decisions to impose a number of travel restrictions and precautionary measures, calling on all members of the society and organizations to adhere to them in order to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

It is also worth noting that Oman Airports has taken precautionary measures to raise awareness across the Sultanate’s airports in an attempt to promote preventive behavior and protect passengers and airport employees against the novel coronavirus, in addition to frequently publishing healthcare materials and travel updates related to COVID-19 on its website and social media platforms.
