Flynas launches direct flights between Riyadh and Salalah
Dhofar Governorate is receiving more and more seasonal flights operated by GCC countries during the Khareef season. On July 2nd 2022, Salalah Airport received the first flight of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Flynas Airlines – the leading low-cost airline in the Middle East. The airline is now scheduled to operate three direct weekly flights from Riyadh.
The Flynas flight was greeted with a traditional water salute by Salalah Airport, while passengers were given complimentary flowers and souvenirs on arrival.
During the reception, which was attended by a number of officials from Oman Airports, as well as the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and Royal Oman Police, Mr. Salim bin Awad al Yafei, Executive Vice-President of Salalah Airport stated that the launch of the Flynas schedule will enhance direct flights between Riyadh and Salalah during the Khareef season. He stressed that the operation of three direct weekly flights on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays will provide a great opportunity for travelers to spend an enjoyable vacation in Dhofar Governorate, either for the weekend, or as part of a longer stay.
Al Yafei pointed out that Oman Airports Company is delighted to launch these seasonal flights to Salalah, which is well known in the GCC for its amazing weather during the summer Khareef season. During the Khareef, which takes place from 21 June until the end of September each year, temperatures drop to below 25 degrees Celsius. The resulting mist, clouds and light rain cause the region’s mountains and plains to be covered in beautiful bright green vegetation.
“We would like to welcome travelers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Dhofar Governorate, whether via air or by land. The movement between the two countries is set to increase with the opening of these direct flights, as well as due to the road network linking the Sultanate of Oman and Saudi Arabia,” Al Yafei added.
It is worth noting that in 2021, Salalah Airport won two international awards by the Airports Council International (ACI), the organization that tracks the experiences of passengers at airports around the world. The first award was “Best Airport in the Middle East for Quality of Service” (in the category of airports with less than two million passengers annually). The second was the “Best Airport in the Middle East in Health Procedures” during the Covid 19 pandemic.
Salalah Airport was also ranked in 2019 as a “5-star Regional Airport” at the Skytrax 2019 World Awards. It was the first airport to be awarded this ranking in the Middle East, and the fourth in the world.
Commenting on the inauguration of the seasonal Riyadh/Salalah flight, an official from Flynas said, “It gives us a pleasure to add Salalah to our destinations during the seasonal Khareef period, which will enhance the recovery of tourism between the two countries."
Mr. Abdullah bin Suleiman Al-Eidi, Vice President of International Sales at Flynas “Salalah, known for its green plains and breathtaking climate, is one of Flynas’ latest international destinations. It aligns with our plans to open up new markets and enhance passenger traffic to/from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s airports. This step is in line with the company’s goal to connect the world to the Kingdom, as well as government plans to attract 300 million passengers annually, and connect the Kingdom’s airports with 250 international destinations.”
The addition of more direct flights to/from the Kingdom will enhance Flynas’ position in the aviation industry at the international level, and provide additional and more convenient options for millions of travelers on these routes, whether for work or to explore new travel destinations. Flynas, ranked globally among the top 10 low-cost airlines, plans to increase its destinations from 70 to 165 in the future.
Flynas connects more than 70 domestic and international destinations via its fleet of over 35 aircraft. Since its inception in 2007, it has hosted over 60 million passengers.
Flynas also received the highest rating in an assessment conducted by the non-profit organization APEX, which is one of the largest international airline associations. This assessment included 600 airlines of various categories around the world. Flynas was awarded as a “Four-star Airline”, which is the highest category for low-cost aviation in the world.
In addition, it was ranked as the “Best Low-Cost Airline in the Middle East” by the World Travel Awards for seven consecutive years. It was also awarded the Skytrax International Award as the “Best Low-Cost Airline in the Middle East” for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021, in addition to the “Best Cabin Crew Service” airline in the Middle East for 2019.
