Muscat Duty Free (MDF) is a standalone business having 50/50 joint venture between Oman Air and Aer Rianta International (Middle East), an arm of the renowned Aer Rianta group is a leading travel retail operator in the region. MDF core businesses include operation of Duty-free shops at Muscat International Airport, A duty free outlet at Port Sultan Qaboos and a Gift shop at the National Museum.

MDF has 15 outlets at departures and an arrival outlet at the airport and offers wide range of duty-free beverages, tobacco products, chocolates and confectionary products, perfumery, cosmetics, watches, sunglasses, electronics and souvenirs.

MDF was able to maintain its steady sales growth even during the recent difficult global economic crisis period suggesting effectiveness of its marketing and promotional strategies. In fact, MDF has outperformed many of the larger regional competitors in percentage growth terms, and is becoming more recognized as a leading travel retailer in the region. The availability of leading international brands at competitive prices in a powerful display, supported by aggressive promotions and good customer service are the main drivers behind this growth. We also extensively invest in our colleague’s training, which allows us to keep our retail standards at greater levels all the time.

MDF are employing over 350 colleagues where we are investing heavily on Colleague’s training and development, the operation has consistently raised the benchmark for airport retailing and it continues to grow.
