Sunday, 24 September 2023, Oman Airports, Riyadh: In a ground-breaking step that affirms the growing spirit of cooperation within the aviation and logistics industry in the GCC countries, Oman Airports and the Saudi Arabian firm Matarat Holding Company strengthened their commitment by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The various aspects of the MoU were approved on Thursday evening, 21 September 2023; while the initial signing took place during the opening of the ACI Regional Office in Asia, Asia Pacific and Middle East region in Riyadh last Monday, 18 September 2023. Oman Airports’ signing of the MoU marked its representation of the Omani airport sector.

This jointly signed MoU, which is a first-of-its-kind level of cooperation in the Gulf region, will serve to create unprecedented synergies between workers in the sector in the two countries. The agreement represents Oman Airports’ endeavours to strengthen their efforts in the post-pandemic world, through partnerships aimed at making their airports a major focus in harnessing shared strengths and exploring new growth opportunities.

This was the first MoU of its kind between the management of the two companies in the GCC, and was signed on the Omani side by Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed Al Hosni, CEO of Oman Airports, and on the Saudi side by Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Maghlouth, CEO of Matarat Holding Company,

The MoU will serve to improve the standards of both parties’ joint work, while creating opportunities for further joint contracts related to the supply chain. It will also reduce costs and supply delivery periods. Additionally, it will enhance cooperation with the aim of exchanging experiences and knowledge between the employees of Oman Airports and Matarat Holding in Saudi Arabia, which celebrates today its 93rd National Day.

Regarding the agreement, Oman Airports stated that the MoU will strengthen existing ties, create a positive union, and provide a solid foundation for working with the same vision to achieve a sustainable and prosperous future in aviation and logistics services in the Gulf region.

Oman Airports also stated that the agreement shines a light on the spirit of unity and cooperation that brings both parties together, and that it may open doors for productive, complementary work that unleashes similar MoUs between airports in the GCC, with the ultimate vision of achieving a brighter and more connected future.

This memorandum will also work to enhance cooperation in terms of In-Country Value (ICV) for both Gulf entities – in the aviation sector, logistics projects, and related tasks. It should be mentioned that the agreement will be valid for two years and is subject to renewal.
