Oman Airports Signs Strategic Partnership Agreement with Karbala International Airport

Strengthening Strategic Cooperation Between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq

Oman Airports, Muscat:
In a move reflecting the strong ties and ongoing cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq, Oman Airports has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Taiba Karbala Company, the main investor in the Karbala International Airport project. The agreement covers the preparation, setup, and initial operation of Karbala International Airport, a key development in Iraq’s civil aviation sector.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamood Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of Oman Airports, and Hajj Hassan Rashid Jawad Al Abayji, Chairman of the Board at Taiba Karbala Company.

This agreement builds on the broader framework of cooperation between Oman and Iraq and seeks to strengthen collaboration between institutions and companies in both countries. It also embodies a shared belief in the importance of joint initiatives aimed at advancing the civil aviation sector and upgrading airport infrastructure in accordance with modern international standards.

Karbala International Airport is Iraq’s newest airport, featuring advanced technical systems and a modern architectural design. Strategically located between the cities of Karbala and Najaf, the airport is expected to accommodate two million passengers during its first phase, with plans to increase capacity to six million in the second phase and ultimately to 20 million passengers upon full project completion.

With extensive experience in managing and operating airports, Oman Airports currently oversees six airports across the Sultanate. This expertise ensures that the company is well-positioned to deliver the technical and operational support necessary to contribute to the success of the Karbala International Airport project.

This partnership is anticipated to further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between Oman and Iraq, while opening new opportunities for collaboration in the fields of air transport and logistics, ultimately benefiting both nations and their peoples.
