Salalah – Oman Airports: Accompanied by a beautiful Dhofar 2023 Khareef season breeze, the first flight of the Saudi Arabian airline Flynas landed at Salalah Airport in the Sultanate of Oman’s Dhofar Governorate, on Saturday morning, 24 June 2023.
The flight had made its way from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, and marks what will become a three-flights-per-week schedule for the airline during the Khareef season.
Oman Airports welcomed this first operated flight during Dhofar’s Khareef with a conventional water salute to express the safe arrival of what was one of Flynas’ Airbus 320 aircraft.
Flynas Airline also launched two flights per week between Dammam and Salalah starting from 29 June 2023. In addition, the airline will operate seven flights per week from Riyadh to Salalah starting from 29 June 2023 – making a total number of twelve flights a week.
On arrival, Oman Airports presented flowers and Omani Halwa for the Flynas Airline travelers, many of whom were eager to enjoy the pleasant weather of the Dhofar governorate’s famous Khareef season. A welcoming cake was also cut in celebration of the new flight schedule, in the presence of many Salalah Airport and Flynas Airline officials.
Oman Airports, represented by Salalah Airport, is currently ready to receive flights during the Khareef season, which begins on 21 June each year. Dhofar is considered an outstanding tourist destination during summer due to the unique and pleasant weather that is accompanied by light rain, lush green vegetation on the mountains, and low 25 °C temperatures.
The total number of visitors during Khareef in 2022 was 813,000, while the total number of visitors from the neighboring GCC region was more than 161,000 – which represented an increase of 24.5% compared to 2019. Moreover, the number of visitors through Salalah Airport in 2022 was 165,700.
Oman Airports – as per the supreme directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq – has put into effect lower fuel prices at Salalah Airport, in order to increase the number of flights from and to Salalah Airport, by to attract a greater number of international airlines. This action is aligned with Oman Airports’ initiating His Majesty’s supreme directives, by collaborating with relevant authorities in order to attract more airline companies into Dhofar, both during and after the Khareef season.
Salah Airport, which is considered one of the few airports in the world with a 5-Star rating, witnessed an annual increase in traffic through Salalah Airport at the end of March 2023 of 34.2% to reach 304,538 travelers on a total of 2,184 flights. This represents an increase in the number of flights by 33.2% in contrast to the same period in 2022.
It is worth noting that Salalah Airport can accommodate 2 million travelers annually with upcoming future expansions predicted to reach 6 million travelers a year; in addition to registering aviation traffic with an average of 75 internal and external weekly arrival flights along with 75 weekly departing flights.
