ICAO PRESIDENT VISITS PASSENGER TERMINAL AT MUSCAT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT & CONGRATULATES CIVIL AVIATION SECTOR PROGRESS

His Excellency Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council visited the passenger terminal building at Muscat International Airport.
 
His Excellency the President and his accompanying delegation were received by Sheikh Aiman bin Ahmed al Hosni – Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports and Chair of ACI World Governing Board, along with a number of Oman Airports Management Company officials.

The President toured a number of wings and hallways of the Muscat International passenger terminal – which is celebrated as a “Gateway to Beauty & Opportunity” and architectural icon that was opened concurrently with the Sultanate’s celebrations of its 48th National Day in 2018.

With his accompanying delegation, the President was then introduced to some of Muscat International Airport’s premier features, such as the comprehensive array of services provided to passengers, speedy check-in procedures, large number of airlines operating from and to the airport, the airport’s annual capacity, and the airport’s plans of expansion to keep pace with the increasing number of passengers in the coming years. He was also introduced to the airport’s emergency plan infrastructure which was designed according to international standards.

The CEO of Oman Airports, accompanied by the Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Operational Officer, provided detailed information on the passenger terminal building facilities. They also elaborated on the efforts made by Oman Airports to position its airport environments at the forefront of the leading international airports in terms of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in line with government strategy.

The President and his accompanying delegation were also introduced to the services and capabilities of Muscat International Airport and the efforts made by the working teams to ensure smooth check-in and baggage handling, and exceptional services for handling private aircraft.

On concluding his visit, His Excellency Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of the ICAO Council delivered a speech to Oman Airports, in which he stated: “I would like to commend the comprehensive renaissance made by the concerned authorities in the transportation sector and other sectors. My visit allowed me a close acquaintance with the renaissance of the airport, and an appreciation for the efforts and achievements being made in the many other sectors that complement the system and support its sustainability. It is greatly satisfying to witness.”

His Excellency the President continued: “I also had the opportunity to learn about the high professional standards being implemented by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and its partners in the sector as well as the positive harmony between the institutions working in it. This is impressive, making us at the ICAO extremely confident about the future of the air transport sector in the Sultanate. Most importantly, we believe that this progress will continue at steadily increasing pace.”

The President expressed his delight in the airport’s architectural design, and the efforts made by Oman Airports to provide convenient travel services to all passengers. He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Sultanate to advance in many fields, first and foremost its modern airports which were established in accordance with international standards and which were supported by cadres who are prepared to meet high professional standards.

The President added: “It is worth noting that since its opening on 11 November 2018, Muscat International Airport has jumped 52 places in the list of the best airports in the world in terms of services and passenger satisfaction, becoming the 11th in the world and competing with other international airports within its capacity category of 15-25 million passengers regionally and internationally.”
